History & Mission:

A new Bach Festival sponsored by CONCORA, Connecticut’s premier professional chorus.
On March 30, 2014 CONCORA performs J.S. Bach’s glorious Mass in B minor (BWV 232) at Immanuel Congregational Church in Hartford, in collaboration with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. Preceding the performance, CONCORA presents the “Mastering the Mass” Festival, five event days over three weekends, with lectures, recitals, master classes and more by many special guests, including: Julianne Baird, distinguished scholar of Baroque music; Jacqueline Horner-Kwiatek, member of Anonymous 4; and Dr. Christoph Wolff, distinguished J.S. Bach scholar at Harvard.
The Festival includes two Saturdays of morning lectures by the Rev. Louis Nuechterlein and Jason Charneski, community sings of the choruses from the Kyrie, Gloria, and Credo of the Mass, conducted by Artistic Director Richard Coffey, and afternoon CONCORA open rehearsals.
Two Sunday afternoons present Dr. Julianne Baird and Ms. Horner-Kwiatek in recital, lecturing, and conducting master-classes with the Mass soloists (all from within CONCORA’s ranks).
The final Sunday afternoon presents Dr. Wolff giving two lectures on Bach and the Mass, with Emlyn Ngai performing Bach’s Partita in D minor in between.
