Heidi Waterman (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: June 22, 1968 - Petaluma, Sonoma County, California, USA

The American mezzo-soprano, Heidi L. Waterman, is a bachelor degree holder. She has enjoyed a wide-ranging career encompassing everything from film film and video game scores to early Renaissance chant to modern opera and cutting-edge modern oratorio. She has performed as a soloist with nearly every major Bay Area ensemble and wide variety of artists, including the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Opera, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Chorale, San Francisco Bach Choir, American Bach Soloists, Artists’ Vocal Ensemble, and North Bay Opera, Redwood Symphony, Sanford Dole Ensemble, Bobby McFerrin, and the Chieftains, among others. Her voice that has been praised for its’ “…rich, lustrous tone and gorgeous legato.” by San Francisco Classical Voice.

Heidi Waterman made her operatic debut with San Francisco Lyric Opera in October of 1998, performing the roles of both Fricka and Flosshilde in the company's production of R. Wagner's Das Rheingold. Favorite roles include Fricka, Suzuki in Madame Butterfly, and Erda in Siegfried (SFLO), Augusta Tabor in The Ballad of Baby Doe (North Bay Opera), and Brünnhilde in Opera Ensemble of San Francisco's "The Merry Nibelungs," a spoof of Wagner's Ring Cycle, as well as Bradamante in G.F. Handel's Alcina, and Disinganno in Il Trionfo Del Tempo E Del Disinganno. She has also been a professional member of both the San Francisco Symphony and Opera Choruses for a number of years. Showcasing her flexibility equally well as a concert and oratorio soloist, she has performed works including Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols, J.S. Bach's Cantatas and the Mass in B minor BWV 232, Verdi’s Requiem, W.A. Mozart's Requiem and Solemn Vespers, and Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 8.

Recent highlights include J.S. Bach's Cantata Christ lag in Todesbanden (BWV 4) and G.F. Handel's Dixit Dominus (Schola Cantorum), J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245 (San Francisco Bach Choir: Mach 2018), Purcell’s Te Deum and Jubilate (Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra & Chorale), Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah (Marin Oratorio (December 2016) and North Valley Chorale), and the (small but mighty) role of a Muse in Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra’s magnificent and well-reviewed production of Rameau’s opera Le Temple de la Gloire, released also on CD (released: July 2018).

In recent years, Heidi Waterman has been fortunate enough to specialize in Baroque and Classical repertoire, earning enthusiastically positive reviews: "remarkable, with a performance both fresh-voiced and Baroque-authentic" (San Francisco Classical Voice). Later highlights include J.S. Bach's Weihnachts-Oratorium BWV 248 (San Francisco Choral Society: December 2018+2019) and Johannes-Passion BWV 245 (San Francisco Bach Choir: May 2018 and Bay Choral Guild: March 2018), Rossini's Petit Messe Solennelle (San Francisco Choral Society: April 2019); W.A. Mozart's Requiem, Johann Christian Bach's Magnificat, Marianna Martines' Dixit Dominus (San Francisco Bach Choir: May 2019); and repeat appearances with Nicholas McGegan on Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra's Sessions series, most recently on a Handel program with PBO creative partner Davóne Tines (2020), as well as a program of music by Jewish composers (March 2021). She currently lives in San Francisco, Calfonia, USA.
