Schola Cantorum (California) (Choir)

Founded: 1964 - Mountain View, California, USA

Schola Cantorum, a community chorus based in Mountain View, California, presents dynamic performances of masterpieces from the choral repertoire, new works by major composers and music from different cultural traditions.

Founded in 1964 by the late Royal Stanton, Schola's mission extends beyond the concert stage to provide the community various opportunities for choral education and participation. Schola's 135 volunteer singers represent communities throughout the Bay Area and are committed to the organization's high artistic goals.

Under the leadership of music director Gregory Wait, Senior Lecturer in Music at Stanford University, Schola presents four concert programs each season to audiences in the southern San Francisco Bay Area. Usually, each program is performed twice. An annual Messiah Sing in December and a July/August series of Summer Sings and KidsSings allow our audiences to celebrate the joy of singing themselves.
