Camerata Vocal de la Universidad de Chile is a chamber vocal ensemble made up of 16 professional singers with vast experience and directed by Juan Pablo Villarroel. Founded in 2000 with the aim of cultivating and disseminating a varied repertoire of a cappella choral music, its members are also part of the Coro Sinfónico (1945) serving as vocal instructors.
The Vocal Camerata regularly participates in the seasonal symphonic-choral concerts of the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de Chile, where it has performed musicals such as Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story, cantatas, oratorios, selections of arias from famous operas such as: Verdi's La Traviata, Georges Bizet's Carmen, W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia, film music, Spirituals, Easter programs such as J.S. Bach's Matthäus-Passion BWV 244 and a vast program of sacred music.
The Vocal Camerata has also participated in the Semanas Musicales de Frutillar, performing works such as Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, Paul Hindemith's Mass for A Cappella Choir, Lauridsen's Requiem and arias from well-known operas. Along with this, since 2012 it has offered a choral season that covers a vast repertoire, from Renaissance music to Latin American popular music. |
