Rheinische Kantorei (Choral Ensemble)

Founded: Germany

This ensemble Rheinische Kantorei devotes itself almost exclusively to the performance of music of the 17th and 18th centuries. Tours have taken the ensemble, which numbers just 20 members, to almost all the countries of Western Europe and to the USA. In 1984 the choir won the chamber-choir category of the international radio competition ‘Lets the peoples sing’. Many works by Bach family (Johann Christoph, Johann Michael, Johann Ludwig, Johann Sebastian, Carl Philipp Emanuel and Johann Ernst) as well as compositions by Bernhard, Fischer, G.A. Homilius, Schein and F.W. Zachow exist in performances on Gramophone records, among others with Reinhard Goebel’s Musica Antiqua ensemble of Cologne, which occasionally collaborates with the Rheinische Kantorei.
