Rheinische Kantorei (Choral Ensemble)

Founded: Germany

This ensemble Rheinische Kantorei devotes itself almost exclusively to the performance of music of the 17th and 18th centuries. Tours have taken the ensemble, which numbers just 20 members, to almost all the countries of Western Europe and to the USA. In 1984 the choir won the chamber-choir category of the international radio competition ‘Lets the peoples sing’. Many works by Bach family (Johann Christoph Bach, Johann Michael Bach, Johann Ludwig Bach, Johann Sebastian, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and Johann Ernst Bach) as well as compositions by Bernhard, Fischer, G.A. Homilius, Johann Hermann Schein and F.W. Zachow exist in performances on Gramophone records, among others with Reinhard Goebel’s Musica Antiqua Köln, which occasionally collaborates with the Rheinische Kantorei.
