Anne-Kathryn Olsen (Soprano)

Born: May 25, ____ - Portland, Oregon, USA

The American soprano, Anne-Kathryn Olsen (Katy), obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Arizona State University (2005-2009); and her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from San Francisco Conservatory of Music (2009-2011).

Anne-Kathryn Olsen is active as a self-employed soprano since January 2009. She is a versatile vocal artist with a passion for historical music: from the gothic Italian avant-garde to the early folk music of Appalachian America; Mediterranean vocal traditions to the music of J.S. Bach. Performances have brought her to the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, La Monnaie in Brussels, the Konzerthaus in Vienna and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. She is regularly invited to take part in Europe’s most important music festivals such as Festival Oudemusiek Utrecht, Festival Saintes, Resonanzen, the Berliner Festpiele, Resonanzen, Songs of our Roots, Actus Humanus and Early Music St. Petersburg Festivals.

Anne-Kathryn Olsen has collaborated with Pedro Memelsdorff and Mala Punica (since March 2013), René Jacobs and the Freiburger Barockorchester, Václav Luks and Collegium 1704, Tasto Solo, Gli Angeli Genève (Director: Stephan MacLeod), Ton Koopman and Amsterdam Baroque Soloists (since November 2012), Helmuth Rilling, American Bach Soloists (Director: Jeffrey Thomas) in San Francisco, and Björn Schmelzer and Graindelavoix (January 2014-January 2020), with whom she has recorded many records on the Glossa label. Also a proponent of new music, she was seen in La Monnaie’s multidisciplinary project Orfeo et Majnun as part of a new opera written for the occasion by Scottish experimental composer Jane Dickson and in 2019 she presented a solo program at the experimental electronic festival, the Long Now in Berlin. This year she will perform opposite Rolando Villazón as Euridice in Monteverdi’s Orfeo with L’Arpeggiata at the Théâtre des Champs Elysées.
