Anders Öhrwall (Conductor)

Born: Sweden

The Swedish conductor Anders Öhrwall has been Director of Music at Adolf Fredrik Church since 1962. He founded the Stockholm Bach Choir in 1964. Its many successes under his direction have included numerous recordings and concerts together with Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Concentus Musicus of Vienna. The choir has also undertaken widely acclaimed concert tours of Japan, China, Australia and various European countries.

Anders Öhrwall has also directed the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Chorus, the Swedish Radio Choir and (early in the 1990’s) the Phoenix Bach Choir, Arizona, USA. "A musician's musician", his choral adaptations of innumerable Baroque pieces and music of traditional origin have gained immense popularity.

Anders Öhrwall is a Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Music and in 1987 received the Litteris et Artibus award.
