Laurie Monahan (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: USA

The American mezzo-soprano, Laurie Monahan, earned her B.S. degree from the University of Oregon, and her Master of Music degree from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. She further studied at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.

Laurie Monahan is a co-founding member of Ensemble Project Ars Nova (P.A.N.) with 5 CD’s on New Albion label and 1 on the Telarc label. She is also a collaborator in the seminal recordings of Hildegard’s music by Sequentia in the 1980’s. Most recently she founded and directs 4-voice women's ensemble Tapestry.

Laurie Monahan is a teacher of early music for over twenty years.

Awards: Chamber Music America Residency grant (with Ensemble P.A.N.). Guest soloist with Sequentia, Newberry Consort, Boston Camerata, Boston Cecilia Society, Collegium Atlantis, Cantata Singers.

Recordings: NPR, Swiss Radio, West Deutsche Rundfunk, Deutsche Harmonia Mundi, Erato, New Albion.
