Emil Lykke (Tenor)

Born: 1978 - Denmark

This Danish tenor, Emil Lykke, studied at Sankt Annae Gymnasium (1994-1007). He studied music at MGK and obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in singing and music education at The Royal Danish Conservatory in Copenhagen, with the teachers Bodil Gümoes and Tonny Landy (2000-2005). Through his conservatory years he participated in more than 400 performances at Det Ny Teater (The New Theatre) in stage productions such as My Fair Lady, Phantom of the Opera and Don Quixote (1998-2003).

After his studies ended in 2005, Emil Lykke joined the opera choir at The Jutland Opera for 18 months (August 2005-2007), where he participated in La Boheme, Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci a.o. After this he won the job in the new highly prestigeous DR VokalEnsemblet (January 2007) where he sings at the moment. This ensemble offers new and varied tasks all the time both as an ensemble singer and as a soloist. Hae is also a member of Ars Nova Copenhagen (Director: Paul Hillier) and Copenhagen Soloists (Director: Jonathan Ofir).

Emil Lykke is a highly sought concert singer who has specialized in the oratorio genre both as an evangelist and as tenor soloist. He has performed with several of the Danish orchestra counting Odense Symphony Orchestra, Lyngby-Taarbæk Symphony Orchestra, The Jutland Sinfonietta and the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra.

In his standard repertoire we find works such as J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorium (BWV 248), The Messiah by George Frideric Handel, Spring in Fuenen by C. Nielsen, and many J.S. Bach cantatas. Also more rarely performed works including Weyse's The Feast on Kenilworth, Georg Philipp Telemann's Seliges Erwägen and Maria Vesper by Monteverdi. Among other works there can be mentioned Mass in D by Dvorak, Cecilia Mass by Charles Gounod, Nikolai Mass and Stabat Mater by Haydn, Rejoice the lamb by Benjamin Britten and Stainer's Crucifixion.

Emil Lykke has specialized in Scandinavian songs in the Lieder genre, and have performed these in many concerts all over Denmark.
