Marie-Ange Leurent (Organ)

Born: March 24, 1965 - Hyères, France

The French organist and music treacher, Marie-Ange Leurent, studied the organ with Gaston Litaize at the Conservatoire National de Région de Saint Maur des Fossés and the piano with Lucette Descaves at the Conservatoire de Rueil-Malmaison. She graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where she won many awards including a first organ prize in the class of Michel Chapuis. She has lessons from Marie-Claire Alain at the Académie de Saint-Donat.

At the age of 22, Marie-Ange Leurent was appointed titular organist of the great organ of Notre-Dame de Lorette in Paris. She forms a famous duo with her husband, Éric Lebrun. In addition to two recordings of works by Gaston Litaize, one of which is devoted to the twelve pieces for grand organ, is a world premiere, she recorded at the organ of Santa Maria de Mahon, Spain, an original music recital of W.A. Mozart and his contemporaries who were hailed by international critics. They record an integral of the organ work of Buxtehude (Record Grand Prix of the Charles Cros Academy), and the complete work of Alexandre Pierre François Boëly (Bayard Music).

Organ teacher at the Conservatoire Leo Delibes de Clichy, and at the Conservatoire de Saint-Mandé, Marie-Ange Leurent also teaches musical writing at the Université de Paris-IV Sorbonne, after having been Professor of musical training at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris.

Several composers have written works for her, including Gaston Litaize (two-part sonata, for organ four-hands), Florentine Mulsant (whose Veni Sancte Spiritus she created in the Église Saint-Sulpice, then the Messe, and the Suite Sacrée for organ), or Valéry Aubertin who dedicated to him his sublime Sonatine pour les étoiles, as well as his Third sonata.

Marie-Ange Leurent is also the creator with the actress Elisabeth Commelin and six other actresses of the Grand Livre de Marie, oratorio dedicated to the pictorial heritage of Notre Dame de Lorette in Paris. She recorded the music of Jacques Rivette's film Ne touchez pas la hache after the Duchess de Langeais de Balzac.
