Leonhardt-Consort, also known as the Leonhardt Baroque Ensemble, was a Baroque music ensemble which played historically informed performances from the early 1970’s.
The ensemble, founded in 1954 and conducted by Gustav Leonhardt, concentrated on music by J.S. Bach and recorded all his harpsichord concertos and the Brandenburg Concertos (BWV 1046-1051). The ensemble participated in his St Matthew Passion (BWV 244) with Koor Groningse Bachvereniging, conducted by Johan van der Meer). In collaboration with the Concentus Musicus Wien, conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt, they recorded from 1971 to 1989 J.S. Bach's complete sacred cantatas. They also recorded works by William Lawes and Henry Purcell. |
