Hellen Kwon (Soprano)

Born: January 1, 1961 - Seoul, South Korea

The Korean coloratura soprano, Hellen Kwon, won in 1984 the first prize at the Novara International Singing Competition in Italy.

In the same year, Hellen Kwon made her debut as Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Magic Flute at the Wiesbaden State Theatre. She has subsequently performed this role in all the important national and international opera houses, for example, Paris, Zürich, Munich and Vienna. Rolf Liebermann engaged her at the beginning of the 1997-1998 season as coloratura soprano at the Hamburg opera, where she has since performed many leading roles including Sophie, Zdenka, Zerbinetta, Norina, Suzanna, Blonde, Konstanza, Fiordiligi, Donna Anna, Gilda, Adele, Olympia and Nedda where she has provided continual proof of her artistic versatility. She has made numerous appearances in operas and concerts, both at home and abroad. She has performed at many international festivals, including Bayreuth, Glyndebourne, Aix-en-Provence and Salzburg, also at the festival ‘Mozart at Schönbrunn’ in Vienna.

Arte Nova has so far released one of Hellen Kwon's Lied recitals, also recordings of works by J.S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, Gustav Mahler and Richard Strauss.
