Nikolaus Hillebrand (Bass-Baritone)

Born: 1948 (?) - Ziegenhals in Oberschlesien (a part of Czechoslovakia since 1918)

The bass-baritone, Nikolaus Hillebrand, started to sing publicly as one of the ‘Dome sparrows’ of Regensburg (the famed Regensburger Domspatzen children’s choir), and sang his first solo as a boy (role of Genii) in a Georg Solti production of The Magic Flute.

Nikolaus Hillebrand’s adult career began when he won first prize at a Berlin Competition in 1972, which led him to his engagement at the Lübeck Opera. In 1974-1977 he was a member of the Karlsruhe State Theatre, and since 1977 he was member of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. He also sang at the festivals of Salzburg and Bayreuth, and in 1979 he made his La Scala debut. He sang in operas, concerts and recitals throughout Europe, in Rio de Janeiro and Israel. He can be heard in many records and frequently appears in radio and television broadcasts.
