The French-born tenor, Ivo, Haun, grew up in Brazil. There he studied classical guitar from 2003, and four years later he continued with a vocal studies. He participated in important early music festivals in Brazil and discovered his love for baroque music. From 2009 to 2010 he received lessons from the soprano Marilia Vargas and was a member of the choir of the Orquestra Sinfônica do Estado de São Paulo (OSESP). In 2010, he moved to Basel, Switzerland. In the summer of 2015 he completed his master's degree at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Gerd Türk. He gained further inspiration through master-classes with Andreas Scholl, Maria Cristina Kiehr, Margreet Honig, Richard Levitt, Christoph Prégardien, Malcolm Martineau, Alessandro De Marchi, Adriana Fernandez, Dominique Visse, Nicolau de Figueiredo, Anne Smith and Sven Schwannberger. Two years ago, he began using the Renaissance lute in his work as a singer.
Ivo Haun's main aim as an artist is to show the audience that a historically informed performance of early music can be touching, inspiring and unpredictable. He is particularly fascinated by the virtuoso Renaissance and early Baroque singers, improvisational practices (including improvised counterpoint), historical acting, the combination of rhetoric and musical practice, the historical pronunciation of Central European languages and Latin, and the performance of music from the 14th to the 17th century from original notation. If he needs a break from the most intellectual confrontation with historical sources, he goes into the forest or finds peace on the top of a mountain.
Ivo Haun works as a freelance singer, and has sung in recent years as a soloist or ensemble member with, among others, Le Parlement de Musique (Director: Martin Gester), La Cetra Barockorchester & Vokalensemble Basel (Director: Andrea Marcon), Musica Fiorita (Director: Daniela Dolci), Thélème (Director: Jean-Christophe Groffe), Ensemble La Morra (Directors: Corina Marti & Michal Gondko), Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir (Director: Ton Koopman), Zürcher Sing-Akademie (Director: Timothy Brown), Ensemble Gilles Binchois (Director: Dominique Vellard), Basler Madrigalisten (Director: Raphael Immoos), Oratori (Director: Anne Smith), Ensemble Lamaraviglia (Director: Stephanie Boller).
Among his projects this season (2018-2019) are concerts in Utrecht (Alte Musik Festspiel), Monteverdi's Marienvesper at the Concertgebouw with Andrea Marcon and La Cetra Barockorchester Basel, and concerts with La Morra (Corina Marti), Vokalensemble Zürich (Peter Siegwart), Voces Suaves (Francesco Pedrini) and Bach Ensemble Zürich (Ulrich Meldau). |
