Holger Groschopp (Piano)

Born: 1964 - Berlin, Germany

The German pianist, Holger Groschopp, studied at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin - piano with George Sava, composition with Isang Yun and Lieder interpretation with Aribert Reimann and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. He completed his studies with many master-classes. He received several prizes, such as at the Brahms Competition for Piano in Hamburg.

Already during his studies, Holger Groschopp began his extensive concert activity and has appeared so far in France, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg, Austria, Hungary, Tschechien, Slowenien, Russia, Sweden, Iceland, Latvia, Estland, Israel, Egypt, South Korea, Latin America and in the USA. He has also appeared as a guest in many important festivals. His concert engagements have brought him several times together with the Berliner Philharmoniker and the Deutschen Symphonie-Orchester Berlin.

Holger Groschopp's repertoire reaches from Bach, Mozart and L.v. Beethoven, to Johannes Brahms, Franz Liszt, Sergei Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky and Gershwin up to Messiaen, György Kurtág and Henze, whose Piano Quintet he premiered in Germany.

Holger Groschopp has made many recordings with German and foreign broadcast and TV stations. At the end of of 2001 appeared on Capriccio CD with Piano Transcriptions and Paraphrases of Ferruccio Busoni, which in January 2002 the BBC Music Magazines selected as one of the five Top Recommendations, and was described by the American magazine Fanfare (July/August 2002) “sine qua non for the Busoni aficionado, and enthusiastically recommended to all who care for the literature of the piano”.
