Andreas Goetze (Bass-Baritone)

Born: 1983 - Utrecht, the Netherlands

The Dutch bass-baritone, Andreas Goetze, studied Mathematics at Utrecht University (2001-2007); he obtained his Bachelor of Music degree from Codarts Rotterdam - University of the Arts (2007-2011), where he studied with with Frans Huijts, with whom he had been taking private singing lessons since 2004. During his studies he also took master-classes with Carolyn Watkinson, Roberta Alexander and John Dawson, among others. In recent years he has received coaching from Rudolf Piernay, Brian Masuda, Frans Huijts and Henk Neven. With Rudolf Piernay he took part in a summer master-class for several seasons at the European Music Institute Vienna in Vienna.

As a soloist Andreas Goetze sang in many major oratorios. For example, he was heard in Matthäus-Passion BWV 244, Johannes-Passion BWV 245, Mass in B minor BWV 232, Weihnachts-Oratorium BWV 248 and Magnificat in D major BWV 243 by J.S. Bach, the Messiah by George Frideric Handel, the Stabat Mater by Dvořák and Haydn and the Requiem by Gabriel Fauré.

On the opera stage, Andreas Goetze performed solo as Bartolo and Antonio in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro in a co-production of the Dutch National Opera Academy and the NJO conducted by Richard Egarr. With opera group The Fat Lady he performed, among others, as Sprecher and Geharnischte Mann in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte. He also frequently played the roles of Sarastro and Figaro in shortened versions of Die Zauberflöte and Le nozze di Figaro respectively with Bold Opera On the Move. At Opera2day he was understudy for the roles of Masetto and Commendatore in W.A. Mozart's Don Giovanni. He worked with many conductors, including Roy Goodman, Philip Pickett and Hans Leenders.

Since 2017 he has regularly performed with the choir of Opera Vlaanderen. For example, he sang in a revival of an acclaimed production of Wagner's Parsifal, several operas by Verdi, but also modern productions such as a world premiere of Les Bienveillantes by Hector Parra. He will also appear in several productions next year.

Andreas Goetze has extensive experience as an ensemble singer. He sings in the Laurens Collegium and the Laurens Symfonisch conducted by Wiecher Mandemaker (both part of Laurens Vocaal) and has collaborated on projects with the Nederlandse Bachvereniging, Cappella Amsterdam and Vlaams Radio Koor. He also regularly sings in small ensembles, such as Camerata Trajectina and Música Temprana conducted by Adrián Rodriguez Van der Spoel. With the latter ensemble he collaborated on a CD recording of the famous Misa Criolla, released in 2014. He currently lives in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
