Nicole Fiselier (Soprano)

Born: Timbuktu, Mali

The Dutch lyrical coloratura soprano and singing teacher, Nicole Fiselier, started violin lessons at the age of 4. In addition, she sang in various children's choirs from an early age. She graduated with Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Singing at Codarts in Rotterdam with Roberta Alexander (2002-2006). In addition, she took the course 'Acting Opera', given by director Annerieke Groen and was invited to participate in the IVC Belcanto Masterclass (2011) with masters including Nelly Miricioiu and David Parry. She has taken lessons and master-classes with Marjan Kuiper, Brian Masuda, Margreet Honig, Audrey Hyland, Emma Kirkby, Jard van Nes and Carolyn Watkinson, among others. She is currently being coached by vocal coach Ira Siff and pianists Mirsa Adami and Peter Nilsson.

In the opera field, Nicole Fiselier performed roles in Apollonia in Haydn's La Canterina (La Petite Bande, December 2014-May 2021), Collonella in De Wereld op d'r Kop (adaptation of Il Mondo alla Rovescia by Salieri), Young Woman in Jonatan Dove's The Day After (world premiere, Stichting Holland Opera (Xpress), June-July 2015), Jessie in Mahagonny Songspiel (Gruppo montebello, 2004-2006), Venus in Venus and Adonis, Bastienne in W.A. Mozart's Bastien und Bastienne (Opera aan Zee, 2009), Susanna in highlights from W.A. Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro and Clorinda in a shortened version of La Cenerentola. She has worked as a soloist with companies such as La Petite Bande (Belgium/Japan), the Nationale Reisopera (RAP) (March-April 2010), Holland Opera (2010), Opera Nijetrijne and Muziektheater Hollands Diep. In recent years she has also performed at the Opéra dans la Rue (France), Opera aan de Schie and the Rotterdam Opera Days festivals. She regularly contributes to new operas or adaptations of classic works such as Bluebeard (Meijering), Multimedia Vespers (Uijlenhoet/Hage), title role in Wolf/Faber's Wie is Mignon (Schatkameropera, 2009), Elize Tchaikovsky's Zwanenmeer (Holland Opera, November 2011-January 2012), Dora, een liefdesgeschiedenis (Réné Veen). As a freelance choral soprano she has already appeared in Armide, Arnold Schoenberg's Gurrelieder, Lohengrin, Il Viaggio a Reims, Francis Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites, Khovhanshchina, Charles Gounod's Roméo et Juliette and W.A. Mozart's Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Dutch National Opera & Ballet, Tsar Tsaltan at the Munt and in Verdi's Requiem at the Flemish Opera.

Nicole Fiselier regularly participates in oratorio concerts. As a soloist she has sung under the direction of Gijs Leenaars, Wiecher Mandemaker, Hein Meens, Gilles Michels, Leo Rijkaart, Barend Schuurman and Jos Vermunt, among others. Her repertoire includes many J.S. Bach cantatas and works such as the Matthäus-Passion (BWV 244) (Toonkunstkoor Gouda, 2011) and Johannes-Passion (BWV 245), Haydn's Die Schöpfung, Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, Felix Mendelssohn's Psalm 42, W.A. Mozart's Krönungsmesse, Exsultate Jubilate and Requiem, George Frideric Handel's Messiah and Camille Saint-Saëns' Oratorio de Noël. As a chorister in the Laurens Collegium Rotterdam and Rotterdam Symphony Chorus (since March 2004), she sang under the direction of conductors such as Frans Brüggen, James Gaffigan, Ton Koopman, Ilan Volkov, Jan Willem de Vriend and Jaap van Zweden. In October 2017, she sang her first production as a freelancer with the Groot Omroepkoor, after which more productions followed.

Growing up with the violin on her shoulder, Nicole Fiselier still feels like a fish in water singing chamber music. She performed as a soloist with early music ensembles Camerata Delft, Continuo Company and La Chambre du Roi. In 2017, she performed as a soloist at five concerts during the Cervo Chamber Music Festival (Italy). She formed Duo with the guitarist Martijn Buijnsters (2004-2011); and another Duo with the pianist Cathelijne Noorland 'Duo Ruby' (2010-May 2021). They could be heard at the Opera aan de Schie festival, the Rotterdam Opera Days, in the Muiderslot and in Kasteel Twickel, among others. She also likes to take less obvious trips: In 2012-2013 she performed as a backing vocalist with the indie rock band Efterklang during their Piramida Concerts in the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway and Sweden. In this capacity she shared the stage with the Kringkastner Orkesteret (Norwegian Radio Orchestra) and Modern Fantazias both conducted by Hans Ek and Sinfonia Rotterdam conducted by Matthew Coorey.

In the education field, Nicole Fiselier has been vocal teacher at SKVR Rotterdam (2007-2012); Singing teacher and developer of breathing methodology of 'Zing je Sterk', a singing program for people with Long Covid (March 2021-January 2022); and Vocal coach at Zangstudio Gouda Nicole Fiselier (since January 2004).

Nicole Fiselier is known for her warm voice and good intelligibility. Her interpretations are sincere and lived through. She has experience in and feels at home with a range of styles from early to contemporary music. Besides singing, she also likes tango dancing, kayaking and climbing. She eagerly awaits a production in which all her passions come together! She currently lives in Gouda, South Holland.
