The idea for an orchestral composition, inspired by J. Strauß, the symbol of cheerful, witty music at the highest level, came to me many years ago. It was a dream, in which in my own musical visions the musical shape of J. Strauß appeared several times shining through. I was a little irritated about this, being occupied very intensively at the time with avant-garde thinking. But simultaneously other sounds mixed together which I recognised as the notes from the beginning of "Art of the Fugue" by J. S. Bach. My conscience was put at rest by "Papa" Bach.
