Rundfunkchor Leipzig
MDR Rundfunkchor Leipzig (Choir)

Founded: 1946 - Leipzig, Saxony, Germany

Rundfunkchor Leipzig (Leipzig Radio Choir) was founded in 1946 as the successor to the Kammerchor or chamber choir of Leipzig Radio. Under the direction of Herbert Kegel the choir developed in the 1950’s and 1960’s to one of the leading choirs in Europe, a status it maintain under Kegel's successors (including Wolf-Dieter Hauschild and Jörg-Peter Weigle).

The choir repertoire covers literature from five centuries. Special emphasis on 20th-century music, as witness numerous premieres of works by composers like Boris Blacher, Paul Dessau and Hanns Eisler

More than 200 records and CD recordings document the achievements of an ensemble now known as the “Choir of Central German Radio”.
