Peter Strömberg (Baritone)

Born: Skövde, Sweden

The Seedish baritone, Peter Strömberg, began singing studies at the Conservatory in Vadstena, Sweden, after which he was admitted to the Birmingham Conservatoire, England in 2004, where he began his Bachelor studies. He continued them with Ingrid Haking Raaby at the Det Jyske Music Conservatory in Århus, Denmark where he finished his Bachleor studies. He then came to Berlin, initially as a Erasmus student, and took his Master’s degree at Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in the classes of Professor Scot Weir and Professor Sebastian Noack (2009-2012). In addition, he studied in the Lied class of Professor Wolfram Rieger and in the opera interpretation class of Professor Julia Varady. He was able to improve his singing skills in numerous master-classes with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Helmuth Rilling, Peter Berne, Helmut Deutsch, Eric Ericson, Kirsten Buhl Møller, Gustav Djupsjöbacka, Stephan Mai, Raphael Alpermann, Erik Saedén and Bo Skovhus, among others. He could also be seen regularly in the ensemble of the summer opera at “Läckö Slott” (Sweden) in various opera productions in co-operation with the Malmö Opera and the Gothenburg Opera.

Peter Strömberg sings in some of the most renowned choirs and vocal ensembles in the world, including the Zürcher Sing-Akademie (since 2014; Director: Florian Helgath), ChorWerk Ruhr (since 2014; Director: Florian Helgath), Collegium Vocale Gent (since 2012; Director: Philippe Herreweghe), Det Norske Solistkor (since 2015; Director: Grete Pedersen), MDR Rundfunkchor Leipzig (since May 2012), Rundfunkchor Berlin (Director: Gijs Leenaars) and Chor der J.S. Bach-Stiftung St. Gallen (since 2022; Director: Rudolf Lutz). Thus he got the opportunity to sing with a great number of prestigious conductors like Sir Simon Rattle, Philippe Herreweghe, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, René Jacobs, Sir Simon Halsey, Neeme Järvi, Iván Fischer, Herbert Blomstedt, Daniel Harding, Kent Nagano, Seiji Ozawa, Eric Ericson and many more.

As a soloist Peter Strömberg has specialized himself as a Lied and oratorio singer and performs a wide range of repertoire from Baroque to contemporary music. He regularly sings concert works such as J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV 245 and Matthäus-Passion BWV 244, his Weihnachts-Oratorium BWV 248 or the bass parts of numerous cantatas, further Gabriel Fauré's Requiem, Johannes Brahms' Ein Deutsches Requiem, Rossini's Petite Messe solennelle or W.A. Mozart's Requiem and his C minor Mass. He currently lives in Bern, Switzerland.
