The Dutch choral conductor, bass-baritone singer and music teacher, Patrick Vaessens, obtained his Bachelor of Music Education Cum laude from Conservatorium Maastricht (2006-2011); attended the Kurt Thomas course for Choral Conducting in Utrecht (2011), studying with Klaas Stok, Rob Vermeulen, Louis Buskens; obtained his Bachelor of Music Education from Conservatorium Maastricht (2008-2012), studying with Ludo Claesen; and achieved high results for his Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting at the Conservatorium Maastricht (2012-2014), studying with Louis Buskens / Ludo Claesen. His graduation thesis "a teaching methodology for singing with adolescents" was awarded the "Knowledge in Business Prize 2011" by Hogeschool Zuyd.
Patrick Vaessens has been Assistant Artistic Director of the Baroque ensemble Ad Mosam BaRock (September 2017-May 2018); and chef conductor of the vocal ensemble Lingua e Musica (since September 2011). Furthermore at the historical event Heiligdomsvaart in Maastricht - Opera in Church, he was the choir conductor of the performance of Handels Messiah. In addition, he is a regular guest conductor / repetitor at Philips Philharmonic Choir in Eindhoven, Sinfonischer Chor in Aachen, Cappella in Breda and the Brabants chamber choir.
In the field of music education, Patrick Vaessens has been Music teacher at Charlemagnecollege Landgraaf (September 2010-July 2011); Music teacher at the Stella Maris College (since November 2009). Conductor / Educator / Workshop Leader at Limburgse Koorschool Cantarella (September 2011-July 2016); He was selected as a trainee of of NKK NXT, the talent development program of the Nederlands Kamerkoor (September 2017-March 2018). He is also a teacher of Music for educational foundation LVO and was teacher of Conducting Technique and Choir Training in the Music in Education department of Conservatorium Maastricht (September 2014-September 2017). His passion lies in captivating young people and enthusiasts for the magic of song and theater. Besides being a teacher, he works on several projects as a singer (bass-baritone) with chamber choir Studium Chorale. He took part in master-classes at home and abroad with, among others, Daniel Reuss and Frieder Bernius.
Patrick Vaessens stands for making music with empathy. He finds his challenge in approaching a vibrant choral sound with transparence and eloquence. In the interplay of music and language he finds an essential medium to enlarge the expressiveness for his musicians and audience. He has immersed himself in achieving a lively and relaxed choral sound, without voices losing their own identity. Imagination and physiology are an important means for him to realize an ideal sound image. He currently lives in Heerlen, the Netherlands. |
