1. Was willst du dich, o meine Seele, kränken?
Meinst du, dass Gott nicht kann an dich gedenken?
Er weiß gar wohl, wann er dir helfen soll;
Denn er ist selbst der Gnad' und Güte voll.
Halt ihm nur stille;
Es gehet so sein Wille.
Wie kann er dich doch lassen in den Banden.
Du bist ja seine Braut.
Wer hofft in Gott und dem vertraut,
Wird nimmermehr zu Schanden. |
1. How now, my soul, why makest sore complaining?
Dost e'er suppose that God thy prayer's disdaining?
Right well He knows whenever Zhou'rt in need.
E'er pitiful is He and helps with speed.
To Him hold closely:
He willeth, so it shall be.
How can'st suppose He'll leave thee here to languish?
He loves thee as His bride.
Whoe'er trusts God, puts else beside,
Shall never know shame's anguish. |

9. Trotz Teufel, Welt, Tod, und der Höllen Rachen,
Gott ist mein Gott, dem alle meine Sachen,
Mein Kreuz, Leib, Seel und Leben heimgestellt,
Dabei lass ichs, er machs, wies ihm gefällt.
Ich halt ihm stille,
Was Gott will ist mein Wille,
Sein Trost befreit mich aller Sünden-Banden,
Drauf bleib ich fest gebaut.
Wer hofft in Gott und dem vertraut,

9. So, Death and Satan both I do contemn them.
God is my God and I His own possession.
And if a Cross I bear, I know 'tis best,
I leave it all to Him and am at rest.
I hold Him closely:
He willeth, so it shall be.
He'll loose the bonds of sin wherein I languish,
And so I calm abide ;
For who trusts God, puts else beside,
Shall never know shame's anguish. |
