Epistle: Isaiah 7: 10-16 Behold, a virgin shall conceive
10. Und der HErr redete abermal zu Ahas und sprach:	[10] Moreover the LORD spake again unto Ahaz, saying,
11. Fordere dir ein Zeichen vom HErrn, deinem GOtt, es sei unten in der Hölle oder droben in der Höhe.	[11] Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above.
12. Aber Ahas sprach: Ich will's nicht fordern, daß ich den Herrn nicht versuche.	[12] But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD.
13. Da sprach er: Wohlan, so höret, ihr vom Hause David: Ist's euch zu wenig, daß ihr die Leute beleidiget; ihr müsset auch meinen Gott beleidigen?	[13] And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will ye weary my God also?
14. Darum so wird euch der HErr selbst ein Zeichen geben: Siehe, eine Jungfrau ist schwanger und wird einen Sohn gebären, den wird sie heißen Immanuel.	[14] Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
15. Butter und Honig wird er essen, daß er wisse Böses zu verwerfen und Gutes zu erwählen.	[15] Butter and honey shall he eat, that he may know to refuse the evil, and choose the good.

Gospel: Luke 1: 26-38 Gabriel salutes Mary
26. Und im sechsten Mond ward der Engel Gabriel gesandt von GOtt in eine Stadt in Galiläa, die heißt Nazareth,	[26] And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,
27. zu einer Jungfrau, die vertrauet war einem Manne mit Namen Joseph vom Hause David; und die Jungfrau hieß Maria.	[27] To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
28. Und der Engel kam zu ihr hinein und sprach: Gegrüßet seiest du, Holdselige! Der HErr ist mit dir, du Gebenedeiete unter den Weibern.	[28] And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
29. Da sie aber ihn sah, erschrak sie über seine Rede und gedachte: Welch ein Gruß ist das?	[29] And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
30. Und der Engel sprach zu ihr: Fürchte dich nicht, Maria; du hast Gnade bei GOtt funden.	[30] And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.
31. Siehe; du wirst schwanger werden im Leibe und einen Sohn gebären, des Namen sollst du JEsus heißen.	[31] And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.
32. Der wird groß und ein Sohn des Höchsten genannt werden, und Gott der HErr wird ihm den Stuhl seines Vaters David geben.	[32] He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
33. Und er wird ein König sein über das Haus Jakob ewiglich, und seines Königreichs wird kein Ende sein.	[33] And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
34. Da sprach Maria zu dem Engel: Wie soll das zugehen, sintemal ich von keinem Manne weiß?	[34] Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
35. Der Engel antwortete und sprach zu ihr: Der Heilige Geist wird über dich kommen, und die Kraft des Höchsten wird dich überschatten; darum auch das Heilige, das von dir geboren wird, wird GOttes Sohn genannt werden.	[35] And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
36. Und siehe, Elisabeth, deine Gefreundete, ist auch schwanger mit einem Sohn in ihrem Alter und gehet jetzt im sechsten Mond, die im Geschrei ist, daß sie unfruchtbar sei.	[36] And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
37. Denn bei GOtt ist kein Ding unmöglich.	[37] For with God nothing shall be impossible.
38. Maria aber sprach: Siehe, ich bin des HErrn Magd; mir geschehe, wie du gesagt hast. Und der Engel schied von ihr.	[38] And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
