BCW: Cantata BWV 140- Revised & updated Discography

August 23, 2021:

The Chorale Cantata BWV 140 "Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme" (Wake up, the voice calls us) was composed by J.S. Bach in Leipzig for the 27th Sunday after Trinity in 1731. Cantata BWV 140 is scored for soprano, tenor & bass soloists; 4-part Chorus; and orchestra of 2 oboes, taille, 2 violins, violin piccolo, viola, horn & continuo. The cantata is known mostly for its 4th movement - the chorale for tenor/s "Zion hört die Wächter singen" (Zion hears the watchmen sing) but the rest of it is also highly gratifying.

The discography of the complete recordings of Cantata BWV 140 (123) on the BCW has been revised and updated. The discography is presented chronologically by recording date in 9 pages, a page per a decade. On the BCW there are also 8 discussion pages of this cantata. All are linked from the main page of the cantata: https://www.bach-cantatas.com/BWV140.htm
The revised discography includes many listening/watching options as part of the recording details. When you click a link to video/audio, a new window will open above the discography page and the video/audio will start to play.

I believe this is the most comprehensive discography of this cantata. If you are aware of a complete recording of BWV 140 missing from these pages, or want to correct/add details of a recording already presented on the BCW, please inform me.
