Some of you might remember Cates from his recordings on the Wildboar label, and he is an outstanding Bach performing artist. His French Suites has two features that are quite distinctive. One is that he opens up each Suite with a prelude >
Does he improvise those preludes or have they been all discovered?

[To Juozas Rimas] The Preludes for the E flat major and the E major Suites comes from some contemporary sources. Cates selects the four other preludes from among the Bach corpus.

[To Donald Satz] Does he perform the older and the standard or just the standard versions of the Suites?

[To David Glenn Lebut Jr.] I don't know what you mean by standard or older - could you clarify? All I can say at this point is that the music is the same as with the other sets I have, except for the preludes.
