Christian Gottlob Meißner (Kantor, Copyist, Bach’s Pupil)

Born: December 1707 (baptised: December 18, 1707) - Geithain, about 30 km south-east of Leipzig, Saxony, Germany
Died: November 16, 1760 - Geithain, Saxony, Germany

Christian Gottlob Meißner enrolled at the Thomasschule in Leipzig on May 27, 1719; studied there from 1719 to 1729; and at the Universiity of Leipzig from 1729 to 1731. He studied privately with J.S. Bach in Leipzig between 1723 and 1729, and served as one of J.S. Bach’s principal copyists from 1723 to 1729 and occasionally from 1729 to 1731, appearing in the manuscripts as Anon. 1; Hauptkopist B; J. S. Bach XVIII. He was appointed Kantor at Geithain in 1731, and spent the rest of his life there.
