Hans Humpert (Composer)

Born: April 19, 1901 - Paderborn, Germany
Died: September 15, 1943 - in battle in Salerno, Italy

The German composer, Hans Humpert, studied at the Frankfurt am Main Conservatory and in Berlin. Then he taught at Paderborn until he was called into the army. His son, Hans Ulrich Humpert (b 1940), is also a composer.

Hans Humpert's music is marked by a neo-Romantic quality, with a strong contrapuntal structure. These include 2 symphonies (1937, 1942); 3 string quartets; String Trio; Violin Sonata; Viola Sonata; Sonata for Solo Flute; 5 cantatas; 4 masses; 3 motets; 7 Psalms; choral and organ works.
