The Eurpean pianist, Joseph Berggrun, was a friend of the composer Anton Rubinstein. In 1921, he founded the Conservatoire M. (Joseph) Berggrun in Chawarby Street in Cairo, Egypt. He was owner and manager of the institute until 1934, when it was taken over by the pianist Ignace Tiegerman (1893-1968), who changed its name from Berggrun to Conservatoire Tiegerman. After Egypt, Joseph Berggrun moved to Argentina, where he gave recitals and worked as piano teacher. Then he moved to the USA, where he resided in Asheville, North Carolina and worked as a piano teacher. His repertoire included works of J.S. Bach, L.v. Beethoven, Frédéric Chopin, Franz Liszt, and his own piano transcriptions. |
