History & Mission:

For the first time in Israel, an authentic Bach cantata cycle is presented to the public. The cantata cycle lets Israeli audiences experience J.S. Bach's music over an entire season, in five different programs presented at the Kiryat-Yearim church in Abu Gosh, with its rich acoustics and unique atmosphere, the best place in which to listen to music by the German master.

Each concert in the cycle comprises cantatas by J.S. Bach selected according to the Lutheran calendar, along with other works by J.S. Bach and his contemporaries, including Antonio Vivaldi, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, H. Purcell and Jan Dismas Zelenka. Among the highlights of the cycle are a Christmas celebration including parts of J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248), and a program for Easter with G.B. Pergolesi's classic Stabat Mater.

The concerts in the cycle are performed by the Israeli Bach Soloists, a new group comprising some of Israel's finest singers and instrumentalists. These promising talents have gathered in order to perform J.S. Bach's sacred works, and especially his cantatas. The Israeli Bach Soloists present Bach's music on historical instruments, employing an innovative approach and a lively, contemporary performing style.
