History & Mission:

J.S. Bach has been the main composer in the activity of La Capilla Real de Madrid. In the 1999-2000 season it performed a series of ten concerts under the sponsorship of the Madrid Region. Programmes like St. John Passion (BWV 245), Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248), Mass in B minor (BWV 232), his Cantatas and Motets, were then heard by more than 5,000 people who met for the 250th anniversary celebration of the Maestro Kantor.

A few years later, in 2004, La Capilla Real de Madrid started a huge project: to perform and conduct as the host ensemble the Series of Complete Cantatas by J.S. Bach in more than 30 churches of Madrid. In this project, which finished in December 2012, 150 concerts were performed and 200 Cantatas sung including all his Oratories, Masses, Motets and Passions and welcomed more than 70,000 people.
