Ian Walker (Baritone)

Born: USA

The American lyric baritone, Ian Perry Walker, obtained his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree Performer/Composer from California Institute of the Arts Valencia (2014); his Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from University of California, Los Angeles (2016). He also attended the Summer School and Festival Music Academy of the West Santa Barbara, Calfornia (2016-2017). Walker is the second-place winner of the 2016 Walter Jurmann Competition and the recipient of the Mimi A. Feldman Scholarship from UCLA.

Ian Walker is a Los Angeles-based baritone with diverse experience in traditional and contemporary operatic and concert repertoire. His 2016-2017 season brings return and debut engagements across the West coast. He makes his company and role debuts in February as Mercutio in Charles Gounod's Roméo et Juliette with Center Stage Opera. A recent graduate of the Herb Alpert School of Music, he eturns to the UCLA stage in June as a guest artist for his role debut as Edmund Bertram in Dove’s Mansfield Park. He returns to Santa Barbara’s Music Academy of the West in July as soloist for the world debut of Matthew Aucoin’s Crossing Suite, as well as the festival’s 70th Anniversary season production of L’elisir d’amore, conducted by Speranza Scappucci and directed by James Darrah. Walker made his debut at Music Academy in 2016 in the role of David for Aucoin’s chamber opera Second Nature, as well as the role of Krušina in The Bartered Bride.

A seasoned recitalist, Ian Walker begins the season this September in a co-production of Richard Steiger’s Nimbus with The Industry and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. He appears with The Industry multiple times throughout the season, including in February for scenes of The Former World and Balls, and a concert performance of A. N. McIntosh’s new work Bonnie and Clyde. He appears with Bach in the Subways in April as soloist for both Himmel Reisse and Komm Susses Kreuz.

Additional operatic performances include the roles of Guglielmo in Cosi fan tutte, Escamillo in The Tragedy of Carmen, Luciano in Musto’s Bastianello, and Ignatio in Bolcom’s Lucrezia. He has appeared as soloist with the UCLA Philharmonia, the Hear Now Festival, CalArts New Century Players, and the WasteLand concert series. He currently resides in Los Angeles California.
