Alva Tripp (Tenor)

Born: November 11, 1937 - Washington/North Carolina, USA
Died: March 18, 2010 - Milton, Kentucky, USA

The American tenor, Alva Tripp, decided, after some initial studies of electrical engineering and English literature for singing career. He was trained at the Mannes College of Music in New York and at Hofstra College in Hempstead. In 1964 he received the Fulbright scholarship, and thus completed his studies at the music academies (Musikhochschulen) of Munich and Cologne.

From 1965 to 1968 Alva Tripp was a member of the Pfalztheater in Kaiserslautern; from 1968 to 1971 he was at the Stadttheater of Aachen; since 1971 he was engaged for a long time at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf-Duisburg. After he had made his debut already in 1962 with a concert at New York's Carnegie Hall, he gave, since 1965, successful concerts and guest appearances in the major German cities, in Belgium and Holland. He appeared as an opera singer, mainly in lyrical roles, in Vienna, Zagreb, Warsaw, Luxembourg, Edinburgh, Copenhagen and Stockholm. He was married to the opera singer Drusilla Lodge, who was engaged at the Stadttheater of Aachen, among others.

Recordings: Decca (Mass in E flat major by Schubert), Electrola (Paradies und die Peri by Schumann), FSM (Mass in A major by César Franck), Fono (Requiem by Bruckner) .
