Conny Thimander (Tenor)

Born: Stockholm, Sweden

The Swedish lyric tenor, Conny Thimander, studied at Kungliga Musikhögskolan in Stockholm (2005-2006). He obtained his Master of Arts degree from the Operahögskolan I Stockholm (University College of Opera in Stockholm (2011-2013). In 2006, he was awarded second prize in the competition Gösta Winbergh Award and in 2013 he received the Swedish Wagner Society Bayreuth Scholarship for his performance of David Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.

Conny Thimander has performed in opera houses such as Teatro Piccolo Regio in Torino, Royal Swedish Opera, Drottningholm Court Theatre, Wermland Opera, Folkoperan, Confidencen and Malmö Opera and with conductors such as Pier Giorgio Morandi, Ralf Weikert, Vincent de Kort, Mark Tatlow, David Björkman, Andreas Lönnqvist, Arnold Östman, Joakim Unander, Peter Dijkstra, Fredrik Malmberg, Gustaf Sjökvist, Stefan Parkman and Risto Joost. On the concert stages he has performed most of the major oratorios. The Evangelist from the Passions by J.S. Bach has become one of his specialties.

Past seasons includes Tamino in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and Pong (Turandot) at Royal Opera Stockholm, Basilio in W.A. Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro and Ferrando at Danish National Opera and in the opera Gegen die Wand in Deutsche Oper am Rhein. He learned the part of the Italian singer in Capriccio on a very short notice at the Royal Opera in Sweden where he also sang Remendado in Georges Bizet's Carmen and Harry in La fanciulla del West, directed by Christof Loy.

In recent seasons Conny Thimander has sung in M.F. Lange’s two operas Vom Mädchen, das nicht schlafen wollte in Theater Bonn and Die Schneekönigin in Deutshce Oper am Rhein, Sandon in Blomdahl’s Aniara at Malmö Opera, Ferrando in W.A. Mozart's Così fan tutte in Confidencen, Lindoro in L’Italiana in Algeri in Baden Baden and My brother is Don Juan at Royal Opera in Stockholm, Goro in Madama Butterfly and Remendado at Malmö Opera, Missail/Idiot in Mussorgsky’s Boris Gudonov and Tanzmeister/Scaramuccio in Ariadne auf Naxos at Gothenburg Opera.

Among his upcoming engagements in 2019-2020 season are Spoletta in Tosca, Flute in Benjamin Britten's A Midsummernight’s Dream and Merkurius in Orpheus in the Underworld all at Malmö Opera.
