Evgeniy Skurat (Bass)

Born: Russia

The Russian bass, Evgeniy Skurat (Evgeny Skurat; Russian: Евгений Скурат), graduated from the Conducting-Choral School and the Popov Academy.

Since childhood, in the boys' choir, Evgeniy Skurat has performed such works of world music as Sergei Rachmaninov's Vespers, Masses of J.S. Bach, W.A. Mozart and L.v. Beethoven, church music by Bortnyansky, Tchaikovsky and Chesnokov. Then he worked in the choir of the Sretensky Monastery, for about 7 years he sang in the church at the Orthodox TV channel "My Joy". He began to study Old Russian church singing, collaborating with the Sirin ensemble. He lived for 2 months in Greece, studying Byzantine singing in Athens, Thessaloniki and Athos. In 2012, he created the Chronos ensemble, performing old Russian polyphonic music from the times from Ivan the Terrible to Catherine the Great. The ensemble's repertoire also includes Georgian polyphony, music of the European Middle Ages and Renaissance. As a soloist, he performs a lot of Byzantine repertoire and ancient European music of the 9th-18th centuries.

Recently Evgeniy Skurat published 2 ensemble and 1 solo CD's: «Шедевры русского ренессанса» (Old Russian Linear Polyphony), «Шедевры русского ренессанса» (Masterpieces of the Russian Renaissance), «Византийские песнопения Страстной Седмицы» (Byzantine Chants of Holy Week).
