The Czech soprano, Lenka Škorničková, studied at the Conservatoire and Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. She was a member of the Opera Studio of the National Theatre and performed in opera houses in Prague and in the opera house in Liberec whilst she was a student. She made her opera début as Pamina in Mozart's The Magic Flute when she was only twenty years old. She took part in several national and international singing competitions and always reached the finals. Taking part in the Grimsby International Competition for Singers in 1989 resulted in her winning two prizes. It was also the first time that the English Song Award had been won by a non-English singer. |
