The Austrian organist, conductor and music educator, Rudolf Scholz. first studied musicology and art history at the Universität Wien, obtaininmg his PhD in 1963. He then completed the state examination (organ) at the Akademie für Musik und darstellende Kunst.Wien in 1964.
In 1964, Rudolf Scholz succeeded his organ teacher Alois Forer at the Wiener Musikakademie (later the Akademie für Musik und darstellende Kunst.Wien) and taught there as a professor until his retirement in 2001 organ and basso continuo.
During his international concert career, Rudolf Scholz played with important conductors of the second half of the 20th century, including Herbert von Karajan, Leonard Bernstein, Zubin Mehta, Claudio Abbado, Riccardo Muti, and others. In 2016, he founded the instrumental ensemble Camerata Viennensis and directed it until his death in 2012.
