Verena Schmid (Suprano)

Born: Munich, Bavaria, Germany

The German soprano, Verena Maria Schmid, completed her Bachelor of Music degree in singing with Professor Andreas Lebeda in Linz and her Master of Music degree in Concert Singing with Profesoor Ingrid Kaiserfeld at the Musikhochschule München. During her student days she was heard in various opera productions, including the title role Angela in the world premiere of Angela und der kleine Bär by Helmut Rogl and as Pamina in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte. She has gained additional impulses by attending singing master-classes with Kurt Widmer, Christoph Prégardien, Edith Lienbacher and Emma Kirkby.

In addition to these opera productions, Verena Schmid is active as a concert singer and can be heard in numerous masses and oratorio concerts. Her repertoire includes works such as Rossini's Petite messe solenelle, George Frideric Handel's Messiah, J.S. Bach's Mass in B minor (BWV 232) and Camille Saint-Saëns Christmas Oratorio. She sang the latter in December 2016 under the baton of Dorian Keilhak and the Orchestervereinigung Gauting. She also devotes herself to new music and Lied singing. She sang several times as a soloist in the concert series »vokal.isen« in Linz under the direction of Andreas Lebeda. She was heard there again in December 2017. In addition, she works as an ensemble singer, including with the Vocalensemble Rastatt (Director: Holger Speck), Solistenensemble Stimmkunst (Director: Kay Johannsen) and Kepler Konsort (Director: Andreas Lebeda).

In November 2017, a CD recording with the Vokalkapelle der Theatinerkirche München and works by Monteverdi under the direction of Father Robert Mehlhardt was released.
