Birgit Quellmelz (Soprano)

Born: Dresden, Saxony, Germany

The German soprano, Birgit Quellmelz, grew up in a family of musicians in Dresden. She learned her first important musical influence in the Kinderchor der Dresdner Philharmonie, with which she got to know great choral-symphonic works under conductors such as Colin Davis, Kurt Masur or Herbert Kegel. An impressive highlight was the participation in the official concert for the fall of the wall in 1989 in both parts of Berlin under the baton of Leonard Bernstein. The following year, she began to study singing in Weimar and after that completed a speech training study in Stuttgart.

Since then Birgit Quellmelz has been working freelance in both areas: as a vocal coach of children's, youth and adult choirs, as well as lecturer at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe and Musikhochschule Stuttgart. Since 1999, she has vocal coach with the Stuttgarter Hymnus-Chorknaben. She was also a member of Dresdner Kammerchor (Director: Hans-Christoph Rademann)
