Gisela Pohl (Mezzo-soprano)

Born: October 18, 1937 - Leipzig, Germany

The German mezzo-soprano, Gisela Pohl, received her training at the Musikhochschule Berlin, where she was a pupil of F. Trommler.

In 1967 Gisela Pohl made her stage debut at the Stadttheater of Potsdam as Azucena in Troubadour. In 1967-1968 she was engaged in Brandenburg a.d. Havel, in 1968-1970 at the Komischen Oper Berlin, where in 1972 she participated in the premiere of Noch einen Löffel Gift, Liebling? by Siegfried Matthus. Since 1970 she was connected with contracts with the Stadttheater Potsdam and the Berlin’s Komischen Oper. She also appeared at prominent stages of the GDR and foreign countries mainly in dramatic roles. In 1973 she appeared also at the Berliner Staatsoper in the premiere of the opera Reiter in der Nacht by Ernst Hermann Meyer. Besides that she developed a great career as concert and oratorio singer, and was considered particularly as an important Bach and Händel interpreter. Since 1975 she belonged to the soloists of the famous Leipzig’s Gewandhaus concert.
