Ensemble Opalescenses (Vocal & Instrumental Ensemble)

Founded: 2006 - France

Opalescences, a vocal and instrumental ensemble specializing in early music, builds its style on the taste of eloquence, the quest for refinement and the concern for theatricality. Founded in 2006 by Saskia Salembier, then just 20 years old, the ensemble debuts with J.S. Bach's St John Passion (BWV 245). Several great sacred projects followed, including Membra Jesu Nostri by Dietrich Buxtehude, Jephthah by Carissimi, Messiah by George Frideric Handel.

At the same time, Ensemble Opalescences is dedicated to projects in chamber forms. Among the works that have marked the life of the ensemble, the Musical Offering (J.S. Bach) by J.S. Bach, Pan et Sirinx by Montéclair, La Lettera Amorosa by Monteverdi, or La Frottole des Forêts flottantes, work of Aurélien Dumont (resident of the Villa Médicis) whose Ensemble Opalescences is dedicatee.

In 2013, Ensemble Opalescences made its debut in the creation of operas with W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, under the musical direction of Stéphane Fuget and staged by Yves Coudray. In 2015, the ensemble created a pocket version of Gluck's opera Orphée, under the musical direction of Marc Meisel, staged by Saskia Salembier. Together with the architect Geoffrey Desplaces and stylist Alain Blanchot, the ensemble is involved in the creation of a scenography that is both imposing and transportable, and thus enables a wider dissemination of the production.
