Sonia de Munck (Soprano)

Born: Madrid, Spain

The Spanish soprano, Sonia de Munck, studied at the Escuela Superior de Canto de Madrid, where she received her Bachelor of Music degree and the special prize "Lola Rodríguez de Aragón". She has been a pupil of Jorge Rubio, Istvan Cserjian, Dolora Zajick, Victoria de Los Angeles, Enza Ferrari, Joceline Dienst, Janine Reiss and Wolfram Rieger . At present, she keeps studying with the tenor Daniel Muñoz. Among other awards, she has being awarded in Pedro Lavirgen International Competition and "Ciudad de Logroño.

In opera, Sonia de Munck has performed Gilda in Rigoletto, Marina by Arrieta, Despina in Così fan tutte, Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Valencienne in Die lustige Witwe, Bastienne in Bastien und Bastienne, Adele in Die Fledermaus, Amina in La Sonnambula, Rowan in The little Sweep, Musetta in La boheme, Der Hirt in Tannhäuser, Princesa in El gato con botas by Motsalvatge, Agafia in Zhenit'ba by Mussorgsky.

In oratorio Sonia de Munck has sung Salmo de alegría para el siglo XXI by García Abril, Exsultate jubilate, Krönungsmesse and Mass in C minor by Mozart, Carmina Burana by Orff, Stabat Mater by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, Missa Brevis and Die Schöpfung by J. Haydn, Cantata BWV 84 by J.S. Bach and Gloria in D major by Antonio Vivaldi. Munck is also very committed to Zarzuela, genre in which she is she is one of the most demanded artists, and she has performed among other works Katiuska in Katiuska, Elena in El Barbero de Sevilla, Duquesa de Medina in Jugar con Fuego, Marquesa in El dominó azul, Clara in El Relámpago, Cosette in Bohemios, María in Gloria y Peluca, Narcisa in La Clementina, Doña Francisquita in Doña Francisquita, Princesa Olga in La generala, Marola in La Tabernera del puerto, Rosa in El rey que rabió, Angelita in Château-Margaux, Sofía in El estreno de una artista.

Sonia de Munck has sung with conductors such as José Ramón Encinar, Jesús López-Cobos, Miguel Roa, Miquel Ortega, Karel Mark Chichon, Cristobal Soler, Pablo Heras-Casado, Antonino Fogliani, Jorge Rubio, José Miguel Pérez Sierra, Lorenzo Ramos, Santiago Serrate, Iñigo Pírfano and with regisseurs such as Lluis Pasqual, Gustavo Tambascio, Emilio Sagi, Luis Olmos, Ignacio García, Curro Carreres, Ian Judge, Patrick Mailler or Tomás Muñoz. She has sung in the main Spanish theaters such as Teatro Real de Madrid, Teatro de la Zarzuela, Teatros del Canal in Madrid, Auditorio Nacional de Madrid, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Teatre Lliure in Barcelona, Teatro Campoamor of Oviedo, Teatro Baluarte of Pamplona, Teatro Gayarre of Pamplona, Auditorio de El Escorial, Kursaal of San Sebastián, Teatro Calderón of Valladolid, Teatro Cervantes of Málaga, Auditorio Ciudad of León, Auditorio of Zaragoza, Teatro Arriaga of Bilbao, Teatro Guimerá of Tenerife..

In 2007, Sonia de Munck made her debut at the Teatro de la Zarzuela de Madrid with Leonardo Balada's opera Hangman, Hangman. Since then, she sings leading roles in this theater such as Rosa in El Rey que rabió and Marola in La Tabernera del Puerto. Recently, she has debuted also at the Teatro Real" in Madrid with The Little Sweep where she has also performed Mussorgsky's Zhenitba and Wagner's Tannhäuser (Der Hirt)" under Jesús López-Cobos baton. In 2009, she performed the role of Amina in Bellini's La sonnambula at the Teatro Calderón in Valladolid in Patrick Mailler's production and Antonio Fogliani conducting. She has performed in the Lluis Pasqual production of Château Margaux and La viejecita at the Teatro Arriaga in Bilbao, Festival Grec in Barcelona and Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo. In 2010 she has performed the leading role in Doña Francisquita in Luis Olmos' new production at the Teatro de la Zarzuela and the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.

Sonia de Munck has recorded Clementina by Boccherini with Pablo Heras conducting.
