Kantorei an Matthäi, Düsseldorf (Choir)

Founded: 1955 - Düsseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

The Kantorei an Matthäi, which was founded in 1955 by Hartmut Schmidt is one of the oldest choirs in Düsseldorf and with its 80 active singers also one of the powerful oratorio choirs of the state capital.

The choir is dedicated to rehearse and perform classic choral works from all eras, from the Renaissance to modern times. The spectrum of the choir include performing major oratorios (as the J.S. Bach's Passions to Frank Martin's Golgotha), as well as magnificent motet works, participating in regular worship music making (Bach cantatas, festive motets), as well as concert tours at home and abroad (Israel, Wales, etc.).

Matthias Hoffmann-Borggrefe was Director of the choir from 1989 to 2002. Since 2002, the Director of the choir is Karlfried Haas. The companion of the choir is the Symphonieorchester an Matthäi (Conductor: Karlfried Haas; Orchestra management: Bernd Fugelsang).
