Mannheim Bach Choir (Choir)

Founded: 1914 - Mannheim, Germany

The Bachchor Mannheim (Mannheim Bach Choir = MBC) was founded in 1914 by the cantor and organist at that time Arno Landmann. Beside the works of their name giver, the MBC has sung an extensive repertoire of aratorios and cantatas. In and the 1960's and the 1970's under the cantors Dr. Oskar Deffner and Heinz Markus Göttsche, the works of J.S. Bach stood much in the center. Under the direction of Hermann Schäffer the MBC formed itself mainly with works of 20th Century. Numerous oratorios by Martin, Oskar Gottlieb Blarr, Zimmermann, Arthur Honegger and many others have been performed, including premiere of the oratorios of O. G. Blarr. The MBC also takes part in numerous services of the church year. High points are thereby the cantatas performed for events in the Lutheran Church Year, which attract many people to the Christuskriche Mannheim.
