Kerstin Lindberg-Torlind (Soprano)

The Swedish soprano, Kerstin Lindberg-Torlind, began her music and singing studies in 1921 at the Royal Conservatory of Stockholm, and in 1926 passed her exam as music teacher and a church singer. Further she was trained by Dagmar Möller, Clary Morales and finally at the Musikhochschule of Berne, Switzerland (1934).

In 1928 Kerstin Lindberg-Torlind gave her first concerts in Stockholm. She had then an important career in the concert hall (primarily romance and oratorio) both in the Scandinavian countries and in Germany. Her masterful singing techniques and her expression intensity became estimated in a rich selection of oratorio parts as well as in Lieder singing. She participated very often in concerts in the Swedish broadcast. She was also member of the Engelbrekt church choir in Stockholm.

From 1958 to 1969 Kerstin Lindberg-Torlind taught at the College of Music of Stockholm. From 1929 to 1954 she was married with the music-teacher Tore Torlind. Among her students were her daughter Kersti Stripple (born 1930), who became an important concert soloist like her mother, as well as Margareta Jonth and Solveig Fanger. She lived in Bromma near Stockholm, and received in 1942 from the Swedish King the medal “Litteris et artibus”. In 1950 she became Hofsängerin.

Recordings: Unicorn (Deutsches Requiem by J. Brahms under the baton of Wilhem Furtwängler, recorded in 1946 in Stockholm); on Poco-Records 9^th Symphony of L.v. Beethoven under Fritz Busch. Her voice is also present on Odeon label.
