The French-born German bass-baritone, Florian Küppers, was born in Paris as a child of German parents. He first received singing lessons while he completed his studies in computer science at the Johannes-Gutenberg-Universität Mainz. From 2009 to 2015, he studied at the Hochschule für Musik Mainz in the singing class of Professor Andreas Karasiak. Soon after completing his diploma in 2015, he completed a complementary study at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis with Professor Ulrich Messthaler. He gained further experience in master-classes under Janina Baechle, Claudia Eder, Ton Koopman, Andreas Scholl and Martin Gester. He was 2nd prize-winner at the Meistersinger Gesangswettbewerbs in Neustadt a. d. Weinstraße.
In 2010, Florian Küppers began regular concert activity in the Rhine-Main region. In addition to his concert career, he made his debut in 2011 as a speaker and first priest in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at the Thüringer Landestheater Rudolstadt. Here he was also in the following seasons in the role of Frangipani in the chamber operetta Coscoletto by Jaques Offenbach and as Bonafede in Haydn's opera Il mondo della luna, directed by Peer Boysens. For the 2012-2015 seasons, he was a member of the Young Ensemble and then a regular guest at the Staatstheater Mainz and most recently took over the roles of Goffredo in Carlo Palavicino's Gerusalemme Liberata, Mago cristiano in George Frideric Handel's Rinaldo (October 2013-May 2014), Marquis d'Obigny in Verdi's La Traviata (September-December 2014) and Cesare Angelotti in Puccini's Tosca (March-May 2015). In the current season (2017-2018) he can be heard as Omid in the opera Schönerland by Sören Nils Eichberg at the Staatstheater Wiesbaden (September-October 2017). As part of his passionate pursuit of early music, he collaborated with renowned conductors such as Ton Koopman, Reinhard Goebel, Wolfgang Katschner, Andreas Scholl, Andrea Marcon, Alessandro de Marchi, Alfredo Bernardini and Martin Gester. |
