Corey Head (Tenor)

Born: Boulder, Colorado, USA

The American tenor, Corey Head, studied at the University of Colorado to obtain both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Vocal Music and Pedagogy. While still at the university, he performed many character roles including Don Curzio in Le Nozze di Figaro and Abraham Kaplan in Street Scene.

Corey Head has sung a wide variety of operatic roles throughout the USA. He sung with the Colorado Opera Festival Company Singers and with Des Moines Metro Opera’s young artist program. Other roles include Goro in Madama Butterfly, Frantz in Les Contes D’Hoffmann, Lucano in L’Incoronazione di Poppea and Cecco in World on the Moon by Haydn. Local appearances include the Count Commander in Verdi’s Un Giorno di Regno (Pocket Opera) and Don Basilio in Le Nozze di Figaro (West Marin Music Festival).

Corey Head specializes in Early Music with a special affinity to J.S. Bach. His solo concert performances have included J.S. Bach's Magnificat (BWV 243) (under the direction of Helmuth Rilling), Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) and many of his cantatas. Other oratorio roles include the title role in Carissimi's Jepthe, Ahasuereus in George Frideric Handel's Esther, and "The Evening" in Georg Philipp Telemann's Die Tageszeiten. He has sung the roles of The Moor in Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's Mlada and Charles Edward in Leonard Bernstein's Candide both with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra. More recently, he appeared as tenor soloist for the J.S. Bach's Magnificat (BWV 243) and the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's Magnificat in concert with the San Francisco Choral Society.
