The German soprano, Cordelia Hanus, received her first singing training in Meiningen with Ines Kurz-Margraf and came by encouragement to the Hochschule für Musik in Weimar. During her time there she received prizes in various youth singing competitions. She studied opera singing at the Staatlichen Hochschule für Musik in Leipzig with Mrs. Kern-Pöschl and privately with Mrs. Professor Maria Venuti. To get the diploma she came to Stuttgart, in order to continue her study at the Opera School with Professor K. Richter. In 1995 she got stipend of the Richard Wagner Federation.
Cordelia Hanus has attracted attention to herself through numerous concerts as solo soprano. In 1994 she was engaged for production of Der Jasager / Der Neinsager (K. Weill and R. Bedemeyer) by the Staatsoper Stuttgart. Her repertoire covers cantatas, masses, oratorios and opera roles as a lyric soprano, as well as Lieder recitals. In 1999 she made her debut at the Berliner Philharmonie, at the Herkulessaal in Munich, and at the Jahrhunderthalle in Frankfurt.
Her activities cover also CD recordings and opera appearances. Since 1998 she is employed as a teacher at the Johannes-Gutenberg-Universität in Mainz.
