Maciej Gocman (Tenor)

Born: February 7, ____ - Wroclaw, Poland

The Polish tenor, Maciej Gocman, graduated from the Karol Lipiński Academy of Music in Wrocław (1991-1996), and mastered his skills during Oratorio and Cantata Music Interpretation Courses - a project of the International Festival Wratislavia Cantans, and Andrew King's master-classes on Claudio Monteverdi.

Maciej Gocman is a tenor appreciated both in and outside Poland. He specializes in early music, but is also interested in contemporary music. He co-operates with the following Wrocław ensembles: Cantores Minores Wratislavienses (since 1998), Ars Cantus (since 2000), and Collegio di Musica Sacra. He works with the following ensembles: Capella Cracoviensis, Wrocław Baroque Orchestra, Concerto Polacco, Il Tempo, Arte dei Suonatori, Harmonia Sacra, Subtilior Ensemble, Concerto Köln, Capilla Flamenca, De Labyrintho, Ensemble Weser-Renaissance Bremen, Irish Baroque Orchestra, and the Warsaw Chamber Opera. He has appeared as a soloist in many renowned venues in Poland, Europe, the USA and Mexico, under the direction of Martin Gester, Paul Esswood, Eduardo López Banzo, Kurt Masur, and Paul McCreesh.

Maciej Gocman received twice the Wrocław Music Prize in the category of Event of the Year: for the CD Musica da Chiesa (with Collegio di Musica Sacra, 2000) and the CD Musica Rediviva (with Ars Cantus, 2003). He won with ensemble Ars Cantus the Zofia Rayzacherowa Prize for ‘the greatest artistic originality in the sphere of early music’ during the 11th Festival of Early Music at the Royal Castle in Warsaw. His recording portfolio comprises over 40 CD's with music from various eras, as well as several radio and television recordings. With Matteo Messori’s Cappella Augustana he has been recording the complete works of Heinrich Schütz for Brilliant Classics. He currently lives in Wroclaw, Poland.
