The German soprano, Daniela Gerstenmeyer, studied at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Professor Heiner Hopfner and at Hanover University for Music and Drama. She furthered her vocal training with Professor Charlotte Lehmann. During her studies she made her first operatic appearance in the demanding role of Micaela in Georges Bizet's Carmen at Theater Hildesheim. Awards from several national and international singing competitions, above all the Queen Elisabeth Competition of 2014, have given her the chance to make her presence felt on the international stage. Furthermore the magazine Opernwelt nominated her as best upcoming artist in 2009.
Daniela Gerstenmeyer has sung at Vorarlberger Landestheater in Bregenz and at Nationaltheater Weimar (2009-2011). Since 2011-2012 season, she has been a member of the ensemble at Theater Erfurt, where she has attracted attention with roles such as Cleopatra in George Frideric Handel's Giulio Cesare, Pamina in W.A. Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, Poppea in L´incoronazione di Poppea, Servilia W.A. Mozart's in La clemenza di Tito, Gretel in Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel, Ännchen in Der Freischütz and Liù in Turandot at the Domstufenfestspiele, Erfurt.
In addition to her work in opera, Daniela Gerstenmeyer is active on the concert platform singing the great works of sacred music, including J.S. Bach's Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248), G.F. Handel's Messiah, Haydn´s The Creation, W.A. Mozart's Requiem and Johannes Brahms' German Requiem.
In this repertoire, Daniela Gerstenmeyer has worked with conductors such as Helmuth Rilling, Thomas Dausgaard, Jonathan Cohen, Jörg Straube, Kay Johannsen, Roland Böer and Hans Graf. She has sung with the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker, Camerata Salzburg, Bach-Collegium Stuttgart, MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig and has made concert appearances in Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and the Czech Republic. She currently lives in Erfurt, Thuringia, Germany. |
