Barbara Fleckenstein (Soprano)
Born: Munich, Germany
The German soprano, Barbara Fleckenstein, began her musical career in the Limburger Domchor. After her final school leaving examination she studied singing with Professor Elsa Cavelti at the Frankfurter Musikhochschule. She also took classes at the academy in Lied and oratorio with Hartmut Höll and Charles Spencer and attended the opera school.
Since completing her studies with the diploma examination Barbara Fleckenstein has engaged in a wide variety of musical activities. Since 1990 she is a member of the Chor des Bayerischen Rundfunks. She feels at home in all musical epochs but particularly enjoys singing medieval music, where she has often participated in radio recordings and CD productions, working with orchestras such as the Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble Stockholm, the Capella Savaria Budapest, the Freiburger Barockorchester and Musica Antiqua Köln. Concert tours have taken her to Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Spain, Italy and Israel. Under the baton of Philippe Herreweghe and the Collegium Vocale Gent she has sung Bach's Christmas Oratorio (BWV 248) in the Tonhalle concert hall as a live performance for Swiss Radio.
